One Year in the Life of a Woman

Guillemette de LA BORIE

Add to my list

Alia is a Parisian woman in her fifties from a comfortable background. Her two grown-up teenagers are already leading their own lives, her husband is not too much of a nuisance, she has dinner with her circle of female friends on the first Monday of every month, her job is rewarding and she has an optimistic outlook on life. She has everything to make her happy.

Her one source of worry is Campniac, the family home which nobody visits anymore and which is gradually deteriorating. The only solution seems to be to sell it.

When medical tests reveal that Alia has a serious genetic illness, she decides that some time spent in the Périgord will do her good. And the more time she spends there, the more attached she becomes to the house and to the region. Many old memories resurface and take hold of her, and Alia soon realises that the walls around her contain a host of family secrets...
Guillemette de La Borie is an author and journalist. She is the author of many books, including Passions romaines (Presses de la Cité, 2011) and La Vérité pour héritage (Presses de la Cité, 2013).
