Marie Antoinette, as She Was Seen

Évelyne LEVER

Print
Marie Antoinette is a superstar. Books, movies, Internet fan clubs attest to it. However, she was and still is the most vilified woman in history. The more she is talked about, the more she is steeped in mystery.

To make sense of her persona, it is only logical to learn about her through the people who actually knew her. Through extensive research, Evelyne Lever has selected texts from people who knew Marie Antoinette throughout the different stages in her life: her entry into the French royal court, as a young queen, a radiant mother, a controversial political figure and, in the end, a humiliated prisoner.
Biography
Evelyne Lever is a renowned specialist of the 18th century. With Fayard, she published L'Affaire du collier (2004), C'était Marie-Antoinette (2006), Louis XV (Le Temps des illusions, 2012), Le Crépuscule des rois (Fayard, 2013).
