In the Corrèze Valley, the project to build a dam disrupts the peaceful village of Saint-Geniez. One on hand, the authorities hope to revitalize the region by creating activities centered around an immense lake. On the other hand, the creation of this lake means flooding half of the town.

While young and old alike team up to fight against the swallowing up of their land, homes and even the cemetary, Fabienne Marquet falls under the spell of François Belmas, the engineer spearheading the project.

But Belmas is a philanderer and Fabienne knows it; no woman has ever succeeded in getting him to commit. So how can she fight the force that pushes her towards this irresistible man? What will it take for this young woman to find her taste for life again?
